MC Livestock Driver: Position Description

Location: Multiple available based out of Warwick , Gracemere, Toowoomba, Goondiwindi, Roma, Emerald and Clermont Depots.

We require MC Livestock Drivers to join our Team in Green at Frasers Livestock Transport. Our Drivers transport pigs, sheep and cattle between farms, feedlots, abattoirs, and ports to locations across Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and the Northern Territory.

About us:

Livestock and trucks are in our blood, which is what sets us apart as a third generation family agri-business. We have been servicing Australia’s livestock industry for over 75 years making our green fleet an Australian icon.

The Fraser workforce is a team of loyal and experienced staff, ranging from those new to the livestock industry, looking to get a foot in the door and those of whom are second and third-generation employees, the kind that can back a triple onto a loading ramp with their eyes shut. The team you’ll see behind the wheel, loading at saleyards or fuelling up are not only truck drivers but livestock professionals with the skill to handle livestock, manage long-haul distances, safely negotiate deliveries to meatworks & feedlots in built up areas – all whilst safely operating a heavy vehicle and their fatigue management needs.

We appreciate operating a heavy vehicle while handling livestock is role for a specialist and so we’re dedicated to providing ongoing safety training, we make sure that our people have the best equipment to do their job safely, along with industry education and training to match. We operate under the TruckSafe - Animal Welfare & NHVAS Advanced Fatigue – Maintenance management industry accreditation programs.

Fraser’s also have a highly experienced team located across New South Wales & Queensland operating out of selling centres and Depots. This workforce take the hassle out of stock transport and are on-hand to co‐ordinate, track and manage fleet and livestock movements as well as manage any on journey requirements like cattle tick clearing, cross-border movements, weighing, feeding and spelling.

About the role:

As a Frasers Livestock Transport Specialist you will spend the majority of your time on the road behind one of our Australian made Kenworth trucks. In 2021 we replaced over half of our fleet with brand new Kenworth trucks. All our trucks and equipment are maintained and serviced in-house by our fleet mechanics who are part of a team that also includes washbay staff, boilermakers and saleyard drovers. This means for our drivers when they are on the road, they can make a mile and when they are home… they are home.

The requirements for our Drivers are as follows:

  • Safely operate a truck with ‘moving’ freight in both rural and regional roads as well as metropolitan traffic conditions (the majority of abattoirs are located in densely populated locations)
  • Carry out safe & efficient handling of livestock with animal welfare as a priority
  • Operate anything from single trailers, B-Doubles to Quad Road Trains and everything in between and be confident to change between these combinations to suit the load
  • A day in the life of a Fraser’s driver can see you in Birdsville one day to driving past Ballina the next so you must be prepared and equipped with your own tools of the trade, be able to carry out daily safety checks, diagnose and report faults and conduct basic roadside maintenance tasks such as changing tyres. • Communication is key to the business of stock transport and it’s what our customers often to refer to as the Fraser difference. Drivers are an essential part of these communications - filling out the necessary paperwork such as log books/consignment notes - liaising with the Operations team, customers and saleyard drovers and keeping our workshop and maintenance team abreast of issues and repairs that come up.
  • Maintain a level of fitness to load and unload livestock (drivers are at times required to enter confined spaces for negotiating sheep decks, loading ramp slide gates etc. and must be able to react quickly in the event they need to avoid injury), confidently work safely at heights (up to 4.6m) and meet TruckSafe driver medical conditions.
  • Our units are fitted with 'Seeing Machines – Fatigue & Distraction' technology for your added safety.
  • Q-Fever Vaccination
  • Not be affected by drugs or alcohol and we conduct random screening
  • Our drivers are the face of our business and first impressions and behaviour count so presentation and attitude is paramount. The entire team wears the uniform proudly, which means no thongs, singlets or footy shorts (even though we love the Broncos). We actively encourage and provide on-going participation in driver health & wellbeing programs and services like Heart of Australia. As part of the Frasers team you will also have a membership for you and your immediate family to the Paraplegic Benefit Fund.

Hours of Work:

Due to the seasonal impacts (droughts/flooding), animal welfare, and the geographic nature of livestock production our Drivers are required to manage a regularly changing driving schedule/work roster. This coincides with our Advanced Fatigue Management program. Where possible the Operations team accommodate leave and flexibility whilst ensuring you maximise rest and work periods.
